The Pritzker Legal Research Center of Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law seeks applications from highly motivated individuals for the full-time position of Research and Instructional Services Librarian. The successful applicant will join an energetic and experienced reference staff that provides the highest level of reference assistance, research instruction, and support to meet the multifaceted information needs of faculty and students. Primary Responsibilities: As part of the reference team, the librarian will participate in our very active faculty liaison program and provide reference assistance to a faculty and student body with interdisciplinary research interests.
Working in close consultation with the Associate Director for Public Services, the ideal candidate will assist in the continued advancement and expansion of the Center’s extensive educational programs, including our first-year research program, research curriculum for LLM students, advanced legal research course, and various student research sessions. The librarian in this role will collaborate with instructional librarians to apply instructional design techniques and assessment practice to the Center’s educational programs and to design research curriculum, tools and learning experiences that enhance critical thinking and information literacy.
The librarian will work collaboratively with the Information Technology team to help law faculty incorporate adult learning theory and instructional technologies into the teaching and learning process. The librarian will plan, coordinate, and conduct training workshops and special sessions for law faculty on current and emerging instructional technologies, as well as teaching and learning strategies and methodologies, and work with individual faculty members, IT team members and other Library or effective ways of incorporating instructional theory and technologies into the curriculum.
This librarian will assist with other public services activities and work on team-based projects with other members of the Pritzker Legal Research Center. Participation in professional development activities is encouraged and supported.
Required Qualifications: The position requires an M.L.S. from an A.L.A.-accredited institution, a J.D. from an A.B.A.-accredited institution, and professional experience in a law library.
The position also requires excellent knowledge of legal resources, successful teaching experience, knowledge of learning theories and instructional technology, a strong service orientation, and demonstrated ability to work effectively and creatively in a collaborative environment.
Must be self-directed, able to manage and work efficiently on multiple projects, and committed to providing the highest level of responsive and innovative service to a demanding patron base in a variety of settings. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications: At least two years of professional experience in an academic law library.
Demonstrated track record of incorporating innovative technologies within course development and using various learning management systems.
Ability to quickly learn new software and troubleshoot technology issues.
